ABOUT THE ART

Colourisations of our past are an evocative means of helping us to appreciate our own connection to it, our own striking semblance to the lives that others have lived which we might otherwise have never truly glimpsed so openly into. However, there are some things that are lost forever to time, such as the people, the moments and emotions that fade as we do. In my work, by selectively colourising only certain aspects which live on long beyond in these stunning vintage photographs, I seek to reconnect and remind us of those common shared experiences, relationships and emotions, and to draw attention to the things which may otherwise be lost forever - those things which carry with them the most weight and import as even now we seek to navigate uncertain times. In my original photography, I seek to cast my own long shadow across the oft obscuring light of modern day, for it is in the shadows that we might wholly appreciate the light.

My work is often a mirror, sometimes an echo and always a celebration of our tenuous hold on humanity and humility. We have done all this before. Somewhere, at some time, someone has felt exactly what you have, has held the same fears for their children, apprehensions for their own livelihood, and immersion in their greatest, smallest moments. There are lessons we can learn, and there are comforts we can take. My work is at times dark and introspective, and at others lighthearted and full of the rush of romance. Such is life. Such has it always been.

All colourisation works are found vintage photography which I have then digitally colourised and edited or enhanced. Wherever possible, I endeavor to give credit or link to my original sources; they are the true masterpieces, my work is merely the spotlight cast upon their shadows.
